Houston Sketchy starlet - tragedy strikes and sketching ensues…

This month’s Houston Dr. Sketchy brought a beautiful 1940’s starlet, Ashley, onto our stage.  We watched as she struggled to make it, lived life at the top and, after receiving bad reviews on her latest feature film, simply couldn’t take the pressures of this world any longer.

Thanks to our fabulous model for her gorgeousness, her creativity and for even bringing her own furniture!!  She was an absolute pleasure - if you missed this month, you missed out big.  We say it after every session, but man - how do our sessions keep getting better and better and better??!!??

We love our models and our sketchers!!  See you next month on Sunday, July 13th from 2-6pm.  We’re going pirate style - more details soon!  Check out our Houston Dr. Sketchy Flickr group to keep the love strong until then.  Ciao dahlings!

Raunchy Renaissance Houston Sketchy party June 22nd!

It’s been a couple of weeks since our last Houston Dr. Sketchy party - have you been lonely? Crying at night with your drawing pad? Mourning the loss of something beautiful in your life?

Well, ya’ big pussy, no worries because come Sunday, June 22nd we’re back - soooo back - with a FABULOUS Raunchy Renaissance party. Think corsets. Think cleavage. Think long lazy Sunday afternoons kicking back with a shot of something pink and a saucy wench on stage to draw.

Bring your pals, bring your enemies, bring that one neighbor who always parks in your reserved parking spot - it’s all good at Dr. Sketchy.

Thanks to Ms. YET for an Ab-Fab May Houston Sketchy!

So yeah, our Houston Dr. Sketchy models are the shiznit. The bomb diggity. The cat’s night apparel.

This month’s model - the fiercely talented and beautiful Ms. YET - was no exception. She belly danced her way into our hearts and onto our sketchpads. It was a wonderful thing.

Be sure to check out our Houston Dr. Sketchy Flickr group this week as more photos get posted and ALSO!! check out Ms. YET and her troupe The Renegades and Their Collection of Carnies. They perform every 4th Thursday at Avant Garden, so you can get your YET fix monthly!

Houston Sketchy coming at you May 18th!!

This month’s model Ms. YET of The Renegades and Their Collection of Carnies is going to rock your sketchy socks off.  What else could possibly make a Houston Sketchy Sunday more awesome than a gorgeous sassy belly dancer, a glass full of booze and your fave artists peeps?

Dr. Sketchy artists get crafty - needlepoint anyone?

So I have to share an amazingly creative Dr. Sketchy masterpiece from one of our lovely artists in March - yes, the sexiest embroidery ever.  We love our art nerds :)

The idea actually came from last month’s sponsor - Sew Crafty Houston - who will be attending this month as well, hopefully with additional craftiness in tow.  Have some sexy crochet or naughty knitting you’d like to do?  BRING IT BABY!!

Houston Sketchy goes tribal for May 18th Sketchy!

This month’s Dr. Sketchy is going wild for belly dancing - it all happens at this month’s Sketchy party at Avant Garden on Sunday, May 18th from 2-6pm.

We are brimming with happiness to announce our awesome model Ms. YET (aka: Yvonne Torres), of the dance troupe The Renegades and Their Collection of Carnies. Ms. YET is a fabulous dancer (meaning we’ll get a couple of kick ass performances!), seasoned model and an artist herself - a veritable renaissance Dr. Sketchy model :)

We had some requests for a twist on our previous gorgeous models, so we’re bringing you a whole new kind of subject to draw and drink with. Tattoos, piercings, amazing belly dancing outfits - our artists will have a brand new kind of Houston Sketchy beautiful sketch candy this month!

More on Ms. YET, in her words:

I am a mixed media artist working primarily with ink on paper, collage, and photography. My body of work documents my creative process and artistic growth. These pieces explore invented characters and the life of the line that leads to their creation. The techniques and execution of my characters and artwork originate from my background in fashion, fabric design, drawing, painting, and street art (graffiti). Sound, music, and the painful challenges of human conflict and emotion inspire me.

I am a contemporary belly dancer. I perform and study regularly throughout Texas and the United States. My current dance study encompasses traditional belly dance forms, American Tribal Style, and Hip-Hop. My dance performances range from folkloric pieces, modern belly dance fusion and an investigation of improvising movement to sound. I curate a monthly show at Avant Garden with the dance troupe The Renegades and Their Collection of Carnies.

3 of our favorite models - on one Sketchy stage!

Not to rub it in or anything, but if you missed our April Dr. Sketchy you missed not only our amazing model Michelle (with the voice of a Sketchy goddess of song) and her awesome guitar accompanist Ant Boogie - but ALSO! our previous 2 months models.

Yeah that’s right, 3 models at one time. We are lucky the room didn’t implode with the Sketchy crazy hotness, really. Super huge thanks to our February gal Ashley and our March gal Katrina for giving up some love to our April gal Michelle.

But we don’t want you to sit home and pout about this tremendous loss of yours, so it’s hugely important that you know about the 3 girls’ dance troupe: L’Amour De Femme. Their premier performance was last week and they have many exciting things coming up.

We’ll keep you posted so you too can bask in their collective glory at an upcoming show. Although who is to say you won’t see a former model or two at upcoming Sketchy Sundays? We are full of surprises like that… Photos thanks to: Michael Cummings (top) and Ed Schipul (left).

Huge thanks for a great April Houston Dr. Sketchy!

Wow, we had a ridiculously wonderful April Houston Dr. Sketchy!! If you missed out… well, you missed out :) Big time!

Michelle, our songbird model, was devastatingly delightful and sang her heart out for our Art Monkeys - what an experience! Be sure to catch her on her YouTube channel for an extra Michelle Musical fix and at the L’Amour De Femme show Thursday (4/24) at Zeppelin.
