More details:
The group considered titling the show, ‘Whatever happened to figurative art?’ For centuries the human form was one of the central themes in the visual arts, but a comparison of works from the 19th Century hanging in the Louvre to works hanging in today’s galleries shows that the figure was more en vogue in the Victorian era than it is now. It is against those trends that the “Just Figures” Art Crawl was organized.
The fifteen artists represented in the “Just Figures” Art Crawl reside in northwest Harris and south Montgomery counties, but their credentials and art experience span the globe. The following artists will be represented: Howie Doyle, Ron Dykes, Rosanne Friedman, Melissa Hardin, Liz Hill, Susan Fleming Hotard, Fred Hulser, Lesley Humphrey, Dawn McKelvy, Marieke Moes, Jenny Pascual, Jon Picker, Sherwin Side, Melanie Stinson, Michael Stratton, and Tonya Vollertsen.
The works are as varied as the artists in the group, with some striving for realism, others using the figure in abstraction, and some artists even mining more complex themes in which the figure becomes symbolic. With paintings and sketches ranging in size from less than one foot to bigger-than-lifesize, these participating artists celebrate the amazing human figure as a time-honored subject in visual arts.
